C-Channels also known as C Purlins is often used in conjunction with I-beams and other steel products to build commercial and industrial buildings, such as warehouses. It can act as girts, studs, braces, joists or other structural components where the added strength of an I-beam is not necessary. Indian Standard Channel are mainly used as braces for the steel structures in commerce and industry, and also used as horizontal or vertical member of small steel platforms or structures.
Steel channel is a versatile product that is available in many sizes and thicknesses. Its cross-section is shaped like a squared-off C, with a straight back and two perpendicular extensions on the top and bottom. The Indian Standard Channel represent a broad product line of bar-shaped building elements with tappered internal surface of the flanges. A steel channel can be jointed, then it is welded or bolted, or warm manufactured, then it is hot rolled or extruded. Upper and lower horizontal part of the channel is called flange, the connecting vertical part is called web.
